Lamson Institute scientists have found a new potential drug that may help fight erectile dysfunction.
The findings, which were published online Monday in theBritish Medical Journal, could potentially lead to a "significant improvement" in men's sexual function.
The study was published in the journalJAMA Internal Medicinelast week.
"We think that this could have a significant effect on the way erectile function is managed, and that could be a very positive development," said lead study author and professor of medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. "In addition, the new research could have a very positive effect on the way we can treat erectile dysfunction."
The research was led by the drug company Pfizer Inc. The drug was designed to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It was originally developed as a treatment for pulmonary hypertension in adults.
Pfizer was the first manufacturer of the drug in the U. S.
The drug was developed to treat erectile dysfunction in men by a team led by Stanford University professor of medicine and researcher Dr. Steven G. Seidman.
The team at Stanford studied the drug's impact on erectile function.
"We've been able to prove that it can improve erectile function for many patients with erectile dysfunction," Dr. Seidman, a Stanford University professor, said.
The study has raised concerns about possible side effects.
"We are going to continue to look at more trials before the drug is approved to treat erectile dysfunction in men," he added. "We think that it's a very promising drug that may have potential to improve sexual function in men."
Dr. Seidman said the drug might help treat symptoms of erectile dysfunction, but it's not enough to improve sexual function. He said that he also is looking for other medications, such as Viagra, that could help with erectile dysfunction.
Other potential drugs for erectile dysfunction include a new type of drug known as a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor.
The new drug, called Cialis, was developed to help men who don't respond to drugs that can cause erectile dysfunction by making an enzyme called PDE5. It was approved in 2003.
The study was sponsored by Cialis Pharmaceuticals and is expected to be published in the next three years.
A spokesperson for Cialis told CNN that the drug was designed for men who have erectile dysfunction, which is common in men of all ages.
"We think that it could have a significant effect on the way erectile function is managed, and that could be a very positive development," she said.
The researchers also found that men who took the drug had a significantly better time to achieve orgasm.
"They were able to have more satisfying orgasms," said study author Dr. Seidman, professor of medicine and chief of the Urology Division at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
The research was funded by Cialis and Pfizer Inc.
The study was the first published on the potential effects of the drug on the ability to achieve orgasm.
In the study, men who took the drug reported a significantly better time to orgasm.
"It's very interesting," said study leader Dr. Michael J. Goldstein, director of the Sexual Medicine Institute at George Washington University School of Medicine.
"We think this could have a very significant effect on the way erectile function is managed, and that could be a very positive development," he said.
The drug was designed to treat erectile dysfunction in men by a team led by Stanford University professor of medicine and researcher Dr.
The researchers conducted a clinical trial in men with erectile dysfunction who took the drug. The study included 18 men who had been taking the drug for an average of five years.
The study was published online Monday by CNN Health and Reuters.
"The results were promising," said Dr. Seidman, a Stanford University professor of medicine and researcher who led the study.
Seidman, who is also the co-author of the study, said that the drug has potential to improve the quality of men's lives.
"We believe that the results of the study showed that it may be effective," he added.

Cialis is a brand name medication for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and the condition that affects about 30 million men worldwide. Its active ingredient, tadalafil, is the same as the brand name Cialis but contains the same amount of the active ingredient.
The active ingredient of the Cialis is tadalafil, which is found in the tablets used to treat the symptoms of erectile dysfunction.
The most common side effects of the medication are:
It is important to inform your doctor if you experience any of the following:
These are all possible side effects and the potential for them to occur. If they occur they can be serious and require medical attention.
It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and instructions provided by your doctor and to take the medication regularly. If you do not understand the instructions provided by your doctor, contact your doctor.
If you experience any of the following, you are advised to contact your doctor immediately:
It is also important to note that erectile dysfunction medications may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with a history of heart problems, kidney problems, or liver problems. Discuss your health history with your doctor.
It is important to take tadalafil as directed and to have your prescribed dosage at the same time every day. For most patients, the recommended starting dose is 20mg once daily. However, if you have a history of vision problems, high blood pressure, or a history of heart attack, kidney disease, or an irregular heart beat, you should start taking tadalafil as soon as possible after the onset of your symptoms.
If you are currently taking tadalafil for erectile dysfunction, you should be monitored regularly for the development of visual disturbances and for a change in vision. You should contact your doctor immediately if you experience a sudden vision loss or a sudden decrease or loss of vision.
The use of tadalafil should be strictly guided by your doctor and should not be extended beyond the recommended dose. If you do not understand the instructions for use, or if you think that you are not getting the desired results from the medication, contact your doctor.
If you are using tadalafil for erectile dysfunction, you should have sexual intercourse with a doctor or nurse for a period of time and you should contact your doctor. Do not allow any stimulation or sexual activity on your body.
If you are currently taking any other medications, including prescription drugs, you should let your doctor or nurse know about them.

1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).
2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.
3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.
Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:

Priligy is a treatment for premature ejaculation in men and is used by some as part of a combination therapy. Dapoxetine is a type of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that has been shown to be as effective as SSRIs in the treatment of premature ejaculation.
Dapoxetine was first approved by the FDA in 2002. It is now widely used and is available in the United States as a generic product. However, the FDA has made it much easier than ever for men to get their first prescription for the treatment of premature ejaculation.
Priligy was first launched in the United States in October 2003, and is now the first oral medication to be prescribed by a doctor for treatment of premature ejaculation in men. It is designed to help men who may not respond well to SSRIs to delay ejaculation.
Unlike other treatments for premature ejaculation, dapoxetine has no side effects and is not addictive.
This is the first time that dapoxetine was approved by the FDA to treat premature ejaculation.
